Haikyuu is a Japanese Shounen series made for teenage boys. This anime specifically focuses on sports hoping to help increase youth participation. Japan has a lower population of younger people, and anime can help engage them with these interests and physical activities.
In addition to engagement, anime centering on youth also helps decrease the number of suicides. In 2016 and 2017, the number of elementary and high school students who took their lives was at the highest, 250.
Producers of the anime series Haikyuu also intend to inspire the youth and bring out the best in them.

Haikyuu Major Characters
Shouyou has the ability to jump higher, making him the best middle blocker. He has trained his legs to compensate for his lack of height and has a natural affinity as a spiker. With every match, Shouyou becomes better and grows as a volleyball player.
When not under pressure, Shouyou is cheerful and energetic. He talks loudly and gets excited easily with every game. His best trait is pushing himself to do better and not giving up.
Initially referred to as the King Of The Court, Kageyama is a volleyball prodigy. He plays individually with no regard for his teammates during a match. What’s important for Kageyama is to win and to get more points.
However, his mindset changed when he joined the Karasuno High School Volleyball team. He learned the importance of teamwork and to accept the abilities of co-players. Kageyama is sensitive and cannot control his emotions and frustrations. With the help of his teammates, he is able to overcome his weaknesses and gain more confidence as a setter.
Considered as the ace of the Karasuno High School volleyball team, Asahi is a dependable player. Although he’s become depressed and insecure with his game, Asahi comes back to the team stronger than before.
His physical appearance is very misleading as he is a monster in the court. He looks gentle and quiet but is actually very composed when playing. He continues to practice and lead the team and doesn’t want anyone else to steal his ace position. In short, Asahi is very competitive, driven, and a great leader.
The former coach of the Karasuno High School volleyball team, he once led the team to the Nationals. Ukai is known in the Miyagi prefecture as a hardworking and skilled trainer. He wants the best for his students and uses brutal training methods to develop discipline.
His overall appearance seems tough and brisk, however, he also has a soft spot for the students he trains. By those who don’t appreciate Ukai, he is called a strict teacher that makes volleyball tiring.
If you are looking for an anime with sports, action, and drama, Haikyuu is one of the best. The story is simple yet the characters are complex. Developments will shock you while watching this anime classic.
