Why Sailor Moon Crystal Season 4 Should Return

Now that you have some updates about the release of season 4 of Sailor Moon Crystal and info about the upcoming movies. Let’s talk about why we believe Sailor Moon Crystal will have a season 4 release.

  • The Dubbed Version of Sailor Moon was Highly Successful Despite Controversy

When the dubbed show was aired in American television, it immediately gained the support of viewers. Many English-speaking individuals were actually introduced to the world of anime because of this show.

However, the dubbed version which aired on American TV is also highly controversial not because of what it contains, but because of what is cut from it. In the original anime that aired in Japan, there is a variety of scenes that did not make the dubbed series. One of the most popular ones being the homosexual relationships shown in the original anime.

In its Japanese release, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were actually more than cousins. The US debut of the show cut all references to their relationship. Instead, the TV executives decided to invent a character to refer to Sailor Uranus’ flashbacks to their “first kiss.”

In another attempt to remove homosexual relationships from the series, the US version also changed feminine male characters to women. Fisheye, a cross-dressing male character, was shown as a woman. Similarly, Zoisite (who was in a same-sex relationship with Kunzite) was also depicted as a woman in the English version.

  • Creator Naoko Takeuchi is Married to Another Manga Author

The show is based on a manga created by Naoko Takeuchi. Takeuchi is also the creator of comic series such as Codename: Sailor V (the story of Sailor Venus), Love Witch and the Cherry Project. She is married to Yoshihiro Togashi, the mangaka responsible for Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighter). If this is not a power couple, then we do not know what is!

  • There are Video Games Based on It

The Sailor Moon show not only caters to anime and manga enthusiasts but also to gamers. From arcade cabinets to personal computer video games, you can definitely find a game that suits your taste best. These games are also available in various consoles such as Nintendo Game Boy, Sega Saturn, Playstation and even iOS.

  • There is a Live-Action Play

Fans of the manga and show definitely have a lot of material to go through. However, the best thing about being a fan is that the creators took the mania to the next level and created a truly exciting and meaningful experience. You can watch the live-action play to complete your experience. Do not worry about understanding the language because the live-action play comes with special glasses that provide English subtitles.

  • It is a Reboot of the Original Series

If you are a fan of the original series, one of the most important things you should know is that Crystal is one of the two reboots of the anime (the other one being a live-action show). This means that this series is created to give an existing show a fresh, new start.

So, while viewers can expect to meet the same beloved characters who will follow a similar path, keep in mind that they exist in a new storyline, one which has tackled the events in the original anime.

The plot or arc of Crystal is also different from the first series. Because of this, you can expect to see your favorite characters experiencing new things and fighting new villains in this reboot. Overall, this series is different, yet familiar experience to viewers.

Because Crystal is a reboot, you are likely to observe various improvements (or downgrades). One of the most evident changes in this new show is its animation. It uses more advanced technology to render the animation, including 3D elements. It also shows a change in pacing when it comes to character and storyline development.

  • It Garnered Mixed Reviews

One challenge faced by reboots (even sequels, prequels, and adaptations) is the comparison and contrast against the original material. The subjective perspectives of fans greatly influenced the reviews received by Crystal. With the aforementioned differences, many fans of the first show may find it difficult to get into the reboot, while some may welcome it with enthusiasm.

Keep in mind that the original anime was released in the 90s, making its first viewers children of the late 80s and 90s. If you ever look back on the 90s sentimentally, you definitely know what we mean. Such a bygone time, viewers are likely to view the original with such a nostalgic lens just like what many Star Wars fans think of the prequel series and the on-going sequel series.

  • It Has Spawned Three Seasons

While Crystal received mixed reviews, the continuance of the new series is evidence of its success. The reboot was launched in 2014 and it is still on-going, giving fans three full seasons to watch. With 39 episodes out, viewers definitely have a significant amount of content to go through. However, if you have finished all three seasons, then you should definitely check out Eternal parts 1 and 2 in 2020.

  • It is produced by Toei Animation

Just like the original, this reboot is also produced by Toei Animation. This company is home to much well-loved and successful anime including the Dragon Ball franchise, Digimon, Slam Dunk, and One Piece. Today, the company has more than 700 shows under its belt.

With a whole lot of Sailor Moon-related content and experiences you can try, you will never be bored while waiting for the movie which will be released in 2020. To keep yourself updated, make sure to follow our blog for news of the Sailor Moon Crystal season 4 release date.
